No, men can also develop depression during and after pregnancy. Of course, the signals may be different. In the case of men, they are not likely to cry, but they become irritable or angry. They may also be impulsive or listless.

What are the main risk factors for depression during and after pregnancy?

In women, some of the main risk factors are: having little social support, having a history of depression, having a multiple pregnancy, getting pregnant very young, experiencing stressful circumstances, having difficulty getting pregnant, going into labor prematurely (before 37 weeks), among others.

In the case of men, the risk factors are: not having the support of family or friends, having low levels of testosterone, feeling changes in the relationship with their partner, if his partner shows symptoms of postpartum depression, suffering from work or financial stress, lacking a good male role model, and having difficulty bonding with the baby.
